Genres


4th grade classes will be spending the next few weeks talking about genres in fiction. A genre is a type or style of writing. There are so many amazing genres to read in the library. They range from Adventures and Mysteries to Fantasy and Science Fiction, Historical Fiction and Humor. I have always loved a good Mystery. As an elementary student, I couldn't get enough Mysteries! Trixie Belden was my favorite.  Now that I am older, I am really intrigued by Historical Fiction.  I am sure my interest will change as I continue to be an avid read.  It is a good thing there are plenty of genres to keep me busy!  What is your favorite genre?

Destiny and Diversity

Students in grades 2-4 have spent time practicing the library's catalog this week. The Destiny Library Catalog allows students to search for books by keywords, title and author. Even more exciting, students can access the catalog from home...all you need is a computer with an Internet connection and the school website. Just go to the Media Center page and look for the Destiny Library Catalog.


This week 1st graders have been learning about Disability Awareness month. The theme for this month is Disabilities. We read the book Moses Goes to School by Issac Millman.



We also explored Arthur's Sign Page on the PBS website. Students were able to type in their name and see how it would look in sign language. They did a great job logging onto the computers and navigating the school website. Practice is paying off!

Rules, Computers and Passwords


All grades have been learning about the importance of rules when in the library and when using the school computers. By the end of the week, all students will have logged on to the computers using their username & password. This can be challenging but has been great practice! Keep working on those passwords!
